Jacobo Siruela

Jacobo Siruela (born 1950) is a Spanish editor, publisher, and writer, best known for founding Ediciones Siruela, a publishing house renowned for its high-quality translations and beautifully designed books focusing on literature, philosophy, esotericism, mythology, and art.

Siruela comes from a prominent aristocratic background, being the Count of Siruela and son of the Duchess of Alba. However, he is primarily recognized for his intellectual pursuits and contributions to the publishing world rather than his noble lineage.

In 1983, he founded Ediciones Siruela, quickly establishing it as a leading publisher in Spain. Siruela's editorial vision emphasized the importance of bringing significant works from various cultures and time periods to the Spanish-speaking world. He championed authors and thinkers such as Mircea Eliade, Carl Jung, and others whose works explore the intersection of culture, spirituality, and the human condition.

In 2005, Jacobo Siruela sold Ediciones Siruela to Grupo Anaya. He subsequently founded Atalanta, another publishing house that continues his dedication to quality translations and beautiful book design, with a focus on authors who explore similar themes to those championed at Ediciones Siruela.

Besides his work as a publisher, Jacobo Siruela is also an author. He has written extensively on mythology, symbolism, and related topics, further demonstrating his commitment to exploring the rich tapestry of human culture and belief. His publications contribute to a wider understanding of the symbolic language that shapes our perception of the world.
