Josh Kennedy (footballer, born 1988)
Josh Kennedy (born August 21, 1988) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). A key forward, Kennedy is the Eagles' all-time leading goalkicker and a multiple All-Australian selection.
Kennedy was originally drafted by the Carlton Football Club with pick number 4 in the 2005 AFL National Draft. He played 22 games for Carlton over two seasons before being traded to the West Coast Eagles at the end of the 2007 season, along with a number of draft picks, in exchange for Chris Judd. This trade is widely regarded as one of the most significant in AFL history.
At West Coast, Kennedy developed into one of the league's premier key forwards. He was a Coleman Medallist in 2015 and 2016, awarded to the AFL's leading goalkicker. He played a crucial role in West Coast's premiership-winning team in 2018, kicking three goals in the Grand Final victory over Collingwood.
Kennedy was known for his strong marking ability, accurate set-shot kicking, and leadership qualities. He retired from AFL football in 2022 after a distinguished career. Throughout his career, he was known for his consistency and durability, playing over 290 games.
