Mahiravana (film)
Mahiravana is the title of several films based on the character of Mahiravana from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Mahiravana is a sorcerer and the brother of Ravana, the primary antagonist of the Ramayana. He is often depicted as the ruler of Patala (the netherworld). Versions of the Mahiravana story generally involve him abducting Rama and Lakshmana to sacrifice them, and Hanuman rescuing them.
There have been numerous adaptations of the Mahiravana story in various Indian languages, including:
- Telugu: Films titled Mahiravana or referencing the character exist in Telugu cinema.
- Tamil: Similarly, Tamil cinema has versions of the tale.
- Hindi: Hindi-language adaptations have also been made.
These films often vary in their specific depictions of Mahiravana, his powers, and the events of the story, but the core narrative of abduction and rescue remains consistent. The films typically incorporate elements of fantasy, mythology, and devotion.
