2008 Green Party (Czech Republic) leadership election
The 2008 Green Party (Czech Republic) leadership election was held to elect the leader of the Green Party (Strana zelených). The election took place between November 28 and November 30, 2008, following the resignation of Martin Bursík after the party's poor performance in the 2008 regional elections.
Two candidates contested the leadership: Dana Kuchtová and Ondřej Liška. Kuchtová, a former Minister of Education, represented the more pragmatic wing of the party, while Liška, a Member of Parliament, was seen as representing the party's younger and more environmentally focused base.
The election was conducted via a postal ballot of party members. Ondřej Liška won the election, receiving 62% of the vote. Kuchtová received 38%.
Liška's victory was interpreted as a signal that the Green Party would focus on strengthening its identity and appeal to younger voters, rather than prioritizing government participation at any cost. His leadership marked a period of internal reform and a shift in the party's political strategy. He remained leader until 2014.
