Cuba (album)
Cuba is an album by the American jazz fusion bassist and composer Jaco Pastorius, released in 1982. It was recorded live at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City during the 1982 Kool Jazz Festival. The album features Pastorius leading a large ensemble, including musicians like Don Alias, Othello Molineaux, and Randy Brecker. The music is characterized by its blending of jazz, Latin, and Caribbean influences, reflecting Pastorius's interest in diverse musical traditions. While Cuba is attributed to Pastorius, the project was undertaken under pressure from Warner Bros. to deliver an album. It differs significantly from his previous solo work, showcasing a larger band setting and a more overtly Latin-influenced style. The album received mixed reviews upon release and has been noted as a controversial entry in Pastorius' discography due to the circumstances surrounding its creation and its departure from his signature sound.
