NGC 408

NGC 408 is a star located in the constellation Pisces. It was discovered on September 22, 1854, by R. J. Mitchell, working as an assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse. While cataloged as a galaxy in the New General Catalogue (NGC), modern astronomical databases identify NGC 408 as a star, rather than an extended object like a galaxy. Its coordinates are approximately Right Ascension 01h 10m 57.8s and Declination +33° 09' 08". The relatively small size and lack of observed structure at its position confirm the identification as a point source, likely a foreground star within our own Milky Way galaxy rather than a distant galaxy.
