14P/Wolf

14P/Wolf is a periodic comet discovered by German astronomer Max Wolf on September 17, 1884, at the Landessternwarte Heidelberg-Königstuhl observatory. It has an orbital period of approximately 8.4 years, making it a short-period comet and a member of the Jupiter family of comets.

The comet is known for exhibiting changes in its brightness and appearance. Observations have shown that its light curve is variable, and sometimes it experiences outbursts, sudden increases in brightness. These outbursts are believed to be caused by the sublimation of volatile materials on the comet's nucleus, releasing dust and gas.

14P/Wolf has been observed at multiple apparitions since its discovery. Its perihelion, the point in its orbit closest to the Sun, lies within the orbit of Mars. The comet's nucleus is estimated to be several kilometers in diameter.

The comet's orbital parameters have been well-established through numerous observations, allowing for accurate predictions of its future apparitions. While not typically a bright comet, it is a frequent visitor to the inner solar system, making it a subject of interest for both amateur and professional astronomers.
