Best of Budgie (1975 album)
Best of Budgie is the first compilation album by the Welsh hard rock band Budgie. It was released in 1975 on MCA Records. The album consists of tracks selected from their first three studio albums: Budgie (1971), Squawk (1972), and Never Turn Your Back on a Friend (1973).
Best of Budgie served as an introduction to the band's music for new listeners and provided a collection of their early, more blues-influenced hard rock sound. While not containing any new material, it highlights some of their most popular songs from that period. The track listing typically included fan favorites like "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" (later covered by Metallica), "Whiskey River," and "Breadfan" (also later covered by Metallica).
The album's release helped to consolidate Budgie's position as a significant band in the burgeoning hard rock scene of the early 1970s, demonstrating their distinctive sound characterized by Burke Shelley's high-pitched vocals and Tony Bourge's guitar work.
