13 (Black Sabbath album)
13 is the nineteenth and final studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Released in June 2013, it is their first studio album in 18 years since Forbidden (1995), and the first to feature original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne since Never Say Die! (1978).
The album marks a reunion of the core Black Sabbath lineup of Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler. Drummer Bill Ward was originally intended to participate, but contractual issues led to his replacement by Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine.
13 was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded primarily in Los Angeles. The album's sound is a return to the band's early, doom-laden style, with slower tempos and darker lyrical themes.
The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number one in several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, becoming their first US number-one album. It was generally praised for its sound, performances, and the return of the classic Black Sabbath sound. The album spawned the singles "God Is Dead?" and "End of the Beginning". "God Is Dead?" won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2014. 13 was supported by a world tour.
