HMS Ivanhoe (D16)
HMS Ivanhoe (D16) was an I-class destroyer of the British Royal Navy, built by John Brown & Company on the Clydebank, Scotland. She was launched on 19 February 1937 and commissioned on 24 August 1937.
As an I-class destroyer, Ivanhoe was designed for general fleet duties. She was armed with four 4.7-inch guns, anti-aircraft weaponry, and torpedo tubes.
Ivanhoe saw extensive service during the Second World War, primarily operating in the North Sea and English Channel. She participated in the Norwegian Campaign in 1940, including the Second Battle of Narvik. In September 1940, while participating in Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk, Ivanhoe was severely damaged by German bombers.
While undergoing repairs, she was then deployed on minelaying operations. HMS Ivanhoe was sunk on 1 September 1940 after striking a mine off the Dutch coast while participating in a minelaying operation. There were casualties among the crew.
