Lanai (architecture)

A lanai is a type of roofed, open-sided veranda, patio, or porch originating in Hawaii. Primarily constructed as an extension of a building, often a residence, it serves as an outdoor living space shielded from the elements.

The term "lanai" has been adopted beyond Hawaii, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, to describe similar architectural features.
