Swepstone

Swepstone is a village and civil parish in Leicestershire, England. It is located in the North West Leicestershire district, close to the border with Derbyshire.

The village's name is thought to derive from the Old English "Swippestan" or "Swipstan's tun," meaning "Swipstan's farm" or "Swipstan's settlement."

Historically, Swepstone was an agricultural community. Coal mining also played a significant role in the village's economy during the 19th and 20th centuries, being located in the Leicestershire Coalfield. Evidence of past mining activity can still be seen in the surrounding landscape.

The village has a parish church dedicated to St. Peter. Other notable features include a village hall and a primary school. The population of Swepstone, according to the 2011 census, was around 500 people.
