Jim Tucker (Louisiana politician)

Jim Tucker (born July 9, 1957) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 52nd Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana from 2010 to 2016. He is a Republican.

Tucker was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law.

Prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor, Tucker served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 2000, representing District 86. He then served in the Louisiana State Senate from 2000 to 2009, representing District 21. During his time in the legislature, he focused on issues related to economic development, education, and healthcare.

In 2009, Tucker was elected Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana in a special election following the resignation of Mitch Landrieu, who became Mayor of New Orleans. As Lieutenant Governor, Tucker was responsible for overseeing the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism. His duties included promoting Louisiana as a tourist destination, preserving the state's cultural heritage, and supporting its arts and entertainment industries.

Tucker unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Louisiana in 2015.

After leaving office as Lieutenant Governor, Tucker returned to the practice of law. He is married and has children.
