Jim Holt (Arkansas politician)
Jim Holt (born November 26, 1944) is an American politician who served as the 17th Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas from 1997 to 1999. A Republican, Holt previously served as the Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands from 1981 to 1985 and again from 1991 to 1997.
Holt was born in Newport, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army and later worked as a businessman.
He was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1996, defeating Democrat Charlie Cole Chaffin. His term was marked by his focus on economic development and tourism in the state. Holt did not seek re-election in 1998, opting instead to run unsuccessfully for Governor of Arkansas in the Republican primary.
Since leaving public office, Holt has remained active in Arkansas Republican politics.
