Jane Eyre (1963 TV series)
Jane Eyre (1963) was a British television adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre. It was produced by the BBC and aired in six episodes. The series starred Ann Bell as Jane Eyre and Richard Leech as Edward Rochester.
The adaptation is notable for being a fairly faithful rendition of the source material, capturing the gothic atmosphere and complex relationship between Jane and Rochester. While some scenes were, of necessity, abbreviated for television, the series generally adhered to the plot and spirit of Brontë's novel. The series received generally positive reviews for its performances, particularly Bell's portrayal of the independent and spirited Jane Eyre.
Due to the BBC's archive policy at the time, the original recordings of Jane Eyre (1963) no longer exist.
