Bronco (TV series)

Bronco was an American Western television series that aired on ABC from 1958 to 1962, starring Ty Hardin as Bronco Layne, a former Confederate officer who roams the Old West seeking adventure and justice.

The series was a product of Warner Bros. Television, created as part of their expanding stable of Westerns, which also included Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, Lawman, and Maverick. Bronco, along with the others, was broadcast as part of the Warner Bros. Presents umbrella program for a time.

Bronco Layne's character was often portrayed as a relatively educated and refined individual, despite his rugged exterior. He generally avoided gunfights if possible, preferring to use his intelligence and wit to resolve conflicts. However, he was also a skilled fighter when necessary and possessed a strong sense of morality.

The show was filmed in black and white. Episodes typically featured standalone stories, often involving cattle rustling, stagecoach robberies, or conflicts between settlers and Native Americans. Guest stars were frequently featured, and many well-known actors of the time appeared in Bronco.

Bronco was eventually cancelled after four seasons, but remained popular in syndication for many years afterward. It represents a key example of the popular television Western genre of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
