David Ford (civil servant)

David Ford (born 1935) was a British civil servant who served in various high-ranking positions in the Hong Kong government during the latter decades of British rule. He is most notably remembered for his role as Chief Secretary, the highest position in the civil service, from 1986 to 1993.

Ford joined the Hong Kong civil service in 1957. He held numerous posts, including Secretary for the Civil Service and Financial Secretary. His experience spanned a period of significant economic growth and political transition in Hong Kong.

As Chief Secretary, Ford played a key role in the implementation of government policies and the management of the civil service in the lead-up to the 1997 handover to China. He was a prominent figure in the negotiations and discussions surrounding the transition process.

Following his retirement from the Hong Kong government in 1993, Ford held various non-executive directorships in Hong Kong and internationally. He remained active in public life, contributing to discussions on Hong Kong's development and governance.
