Ion Gorun

Ion Gorun (pen name of Alexandru I. Hodoș; born January 6, 1851, Hodod, Sălaj County – died January 17, 1929, Bucharest) was a Romanian writer, poet, folklorist, and journalist. He is remembered primarily for his contributions to Romanian folklore and his patriotic poetry.

Gorun studied at the gymnasium in Beiuș and later law in Budapest and Cluj. He began his literary career in the 1870s, contributing to various magazines and newspapers, including Familia and Tribuna.

His work often drew inspiration from Romanian rural life, customs, and legends. He collected and published numerous folk tales, ballads, and songs, contributing significantly to the preservation and popularization of Romanian folklore.

Beyond his folkloric work, Gorun also wrote poetry, often with a nationalist or patriotic theme. He was a member of various literary societies and academies, and his work was recognized during his lifetime. He held various administrative positions related to culture and education.
