Ballybay is a market town in County Monaghan, Ireland. It is located approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) southeast of Castleblayney and 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Cavan. Ballybay is situated on the N3 and R183 roads.
History:
The town's name, Béal Átha Beithe in Irish, translates to "mouth of the ford of the birch tree." Ballybay developed around a crossroads and its importance grew as a market center for the surrounding agricultural area. It was granted market rights in the 17th century. Historically, the town was associated with linen production and later with the poultry industry.
