Vice admiral (India)

Vice Admiral is a three-star rank in the Indian Navy. It is equivalent to a Lieutenant General in the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. Vice Admirals are senior officers who hold important command and staff appointments within the Navy.

Vice Admirals typically hold key positions such as:

• Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of a Naval Command (e.g., Western Naval Command, Eastern Naval Command, Southern Naval Command). These are the highest operational commands within the Indian Navy.
• Chief of Personnel (COP) - responsible for the manpower and personnel aspects of the Navy.
• Chief of Materiel (COM) - responsible for the logistics, maintenance and support of the Navy's assets.
• Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (DCNS) - assists the Chief of Naval Staff in the overall management of the Navy.
• Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition (CWP&A).
