Doria (opera)

Doria is an opera in three acts composed by Alfredo Catalani to a libretto by Luigi Illica. It premiered on 23 March 1892 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

The opera is a verismo work, focusing on the lives and passions of its characters. The plot centers around Doria, a fisherman's daughter, and her ill-fated love affair with Giorgio, a nobleman. The story is set in the coastal region of Liguria, Italy.

Although initially unsuccessful, Doria has seen occasional revivals in the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st, benefiting from renewed interest in Catalani's work and the verismo style in general. Recordings of the opera are available.
