Haltdalen

Haltdalen is a village and former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the present-day municipality of Holtålen.

History: The municipality of Haltdalen was established in 1838. In 1937, the name was changed to Holtålen. The separate municipality of Haltdalen ceased to exist on January 1, 1972, when it merged with Ålen municipality to form the present-day Holtålen municipality.

Geography: Haltdalen is situated in a mountainous region. The river Gaula flows through the area. The landscape is characterized by valleys, forests, and open moorland.

Culture: Haltdalen is known for its historical stave church, the Haltdalen Stave Church. A reconstructed version of this church is located at the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folkemuseum in Trondheim. The village also maintains traditions related to agriculture and forestry.
