Michael Brooks (political commentator)

Michael Brooks (August 13, 1983 – July 20, 2020) was an American political commentator, writer, and comedian. He was known for his socialist and internationalist political views, often articulated through a blend of humor, historical analysis, and philosophical insights.

Brooks rose to prominence as a co-host, alongside Michael Tracey, of the web series "The Michael Brooks Show," later shortened to "TMBS." On TMBS, he offered analysis of current events, political discourse, and historical subjects from a left-wing perspective. He also conducted interviews with academics, journalists, activists, and political figures.

Beyond TMBS, Brooks was a frequent commentator on other progressive media platforms and contributed writings to various publications. His analyses often focused on U.S. foreign policy, capitalism, and the importance of international solidarity. He was particularly critical of neoliberalism, imperialism, and the mainstream media.

Brooks was the author of the book "Against the Web: A Cosmopolitan Answer to the New Right," published in 2020. In it, he critiqued the intellectual dark web and argued for a cosmopolitan left-wing approach to countering right-wing populism.

Brooks's sudden death in July 2020 was met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the left-wing political spectrum. His work continues to be influential among progressive and socialist thinkers and activists.
