Shuakhevi

Shuakhevi is a town (Georgian: დაბა, daba) in Adjara, an autonomous republic in southwestern Georgia. It serves as the administrative center of the Shuakhevi Municipality.

Located in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, Shuakhevi is characterized by its mountainous terrain and proximity to the Adjaristsqali River. The region's economy is primarily based on agriculture, including livestock farming and cultivation of fruits and vegetables.

Historically, the area around Shuakhevi has been part of various Georgian kingdoms and principalities, eventually becoming part of the Ottoman Empire before being incorporated into Russia and then Georgia.

The town has a population that is relatively small compared to other municipal centers in Georgia. Basic infrastructure exists, including schools, healthcare facilities, and local government offices. Transportation to and from Shuakhevi is mainly by road, connecting it to Batumi and other parts of Adjara.

Tourism plays a minor, but developing, role in the local economy, with potential for hiking and exploring the surrounding natural environment.
