Bengay

Bengay is a brand name for a line of topical pain relieving ointments and creams. Manufactured by Kenvue (formerly a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), Bengay products are primarily used to provide temporary relief from minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, arthritis, strains, bruises, and sprains.

The active ingredients in Bengay typically include methyl salicylate (a counterirritant) and menthol (an analgesic). Some formulations may also contain camphor. These ingredients work by creating a warming or cooling sensation on the skin, which is thought to distract the user from the deeper pain signals. Methyl salicylate, in particular, has some analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Bengay products are available in various strengths and formulations, including gels, creams, and patches. Application instructions generally advise applying a thin layer to the affected area and massaging it gently. It's generally recommended to avoid applying Bengay to broken or irritated skin, and to avoid wrapping or bandaging the treated area tightly.
