Infundibulum (heart)

The infundibulum of the heart refers to a conical pouch formed from the upper and front part of the right ventricle in the heart. It gives origin to the pulmonary trunk, which carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs. The infundibulum is also known as the conus arteriosus. Its smooth walls contrast with the trabeculae carneae found in the rest of the right ventricle, allowing for a less turbulent flow of blood towards the pulmonary valve. A narrowing or obstruction of the infundibulum, known as infundibular stenosis, can contribute to conditions such as Tetralogy of Fallot.
