Italian submarine Narvalo (1906)

The Narvalo was an early Italian submarine built for the Regia Marina (Royal Italian Navy) by FIAT-San Giorgio in La Spezia. Laid down in 1905 and launched in 1906, the Narvalo represented a significant step in the development of Italian submarine technology, though she was considered relatively small and of limited operational capabilities compared to later vessels.

She was designed by engineer Cesare Laurenti, whose work significantly influenced early Italian submarine design. The Narvalo was a single-hulled submarine, powered by internal combustion engines for surface cruising and electric motors for submerged propulsion. She was armed with torpedoes, typical for submarines of her era.

The Narvalo served primarily as a training vessel, contributing to the development of Italian submarine tactics and the training of crews. She did not see significant combat action. She was eventually decommissioned and stricken from the naval register, marking the end of her service life. Further details regarding the exact date of decommissioning or her final disposition are sometimes unclear or inconsistent across historical sources.
