Wicko (lake)

Wicko is a coastal lake (in Polish: jezioro przybrzeżne) located in northern Poland, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It's situated within the boundaries of the Słowiński National Park, very close to the Baltic Sea. It is separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land, a barrier beach or spit. Wicko is relatively shallow and characterized by brackish water, a mix of fresh and saltwater due to its proximity to the sea and freshwater inflows from rivers and streams.

The lake is an important habitat for a variety of bird species, particularly during migration periods. Its protected status within the national park helps to preserve its ecological value. Recreational activities such as birdwatching and kayaking are popular in the area, though restrictions are in place to minimize disturbance to the natural environment. The lake contributes to the unique landscape of the Słowiński National Park, known for its shifting sand dunes and diverse ecosystems.
