Incarnation (Cecil Taylor album)

Incarnation is a live album by free jazz pianist Cecil Taylor, recorded in performance at Antioch College in 1969 and released on the Freedom label in 1971. The album documents a performance by Taylor's quartet, which at the time featured alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons, bassist Sirone, and drummer Andrew Cyrille.

The album features two extended pieces. Side one of the original LP release contains "Incarnation, Pts. 1 & 2," while side two features "Spring of Two Blue-J's." The music is characterized by Taylor's signature percussive piano playing, Lyons' soaring and angular saxophone lines, and the driving, complex rhythms of Sirone and Cyrille.

Incarnation is considered a significant document of Taylor's work from this period, showcasing the quartet's intense energy and improvisational skills. The album provides a window into the highly communicative and often turbulent musical landscape of the Cecil Taylor Unit during the late 1960s. The album has been reissued on CD, often paired with other recordings from the same era.
