The Frog Prince (1971 film)

The Frog Prince is a 1971 British musical fantasy film directed by Jackson Hunsicker and starring Kermit the Frog as the titular character. It is based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. The film is notable for being one of the earlier appearances of Kermit the Frog in a leading role, pre-dating the widespread popularity of The Muppet Show.

The film tells the story of a spoiled princess who reluctantly befriends a frog after he retrieves her golden ball from a well. She is forced to bring the frog into the castle, where he eventually transforms into a handsome prince. The 1971 adaptation features original songs and a somewhat modernized (for the time) take on the classic tale, with an emphasis on comedic elements alongside the more traditional fairytale aspects. While not as widely known as later Muppet productions, The Frog Prince remains a significant early example of Jim Henson's work and the development of Kermit the Frog's character.
