Thirteen (Megadeth album)
Thirteen is the thirteenth studio album by the American thrash metal band Megadeth. It was released on November 1, 2011, by Roadrunner Records. The album marked the return of original bassist Dave Ellefson to the band after a nine-year absence.
The album was produced by Johnny K, who had previously worked with bands like Disturbed and Machine Head. The recording process took place at Dave Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California.
Thirteen features a blend of traditional thrash metal elements with more melodic and hard rock influences. Several tracks on the album, including "Sudden Death" and "Never Dead," were previously released in other forms. "Sudden Death" was originally featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, while "Never Dead" was made for the video game NeverDead.
The album spawned two singles: "Public Enemy No. 1" and "Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)." Thirteen received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with many praising the return of Ellefson and the band's renewed energy, while others criticized the production and songwriting.
The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, selling 42,000 copies in its first week. It also charted in several other countries, including Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
