Galgalatz
Galgalatz (Hebrew: גלגל"צ, a portmanteau of "Gal" (Wave) and "Galatz" (IDF Radio)) is a popular Israeli radio station. It is one of two national radio stations operated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the other being Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio).
Galgalatz is primarily known for its contemporary Israeli and international pop and rock music. Unlike Galei Tzahal, which includes news, talk shows, and military programming, Galgalatz focuses almost exclusively on music. It caters to a younger demographic and is particularly popular among drivers and commuters due to its upbeat playlists and frequent traffic reports.
The station is also known for its "Zemer LeKol Dor" (Song for Every Generation) project, where popular Israeli songs are chosen each year by listeners, highlighting the station's connection to Israeli music heritage. Galgalatz plays a significant role in shaping Israeli popular music trends and promoting both established and emerging artists. Its influence extends beyond just radio broadcasting, as the station also operates a website and has a strong presence on social media. The station is often credited with promoting a more diverse range of musical styles within Israeli mainstream culture.
While technically part of the IDF Radio network, Galgalatz enjoys a significant degree of editorial independence in its musical programming. This allows it to maintain its distinct identity and appeal to a broad audience beyond those serving in the military.
