Headroom (Don McLean album)

Headroom is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Don McLean, released in 1990. The album marked a departure from his earlier folk and folk-rock styles, incorporating more contemporary pop and adult contemporary influences. It was released on Capitol Records and produced by Bob Johnston, who had previously worked with McLean on his earlier albums.

Headroom features ten tracks, including original compositions by McLean and covers of songs by other artists. Some of the original songs include "You Can't Blame the Train," "American Boys," and "Headroom." The album also includes covers of "Since I Don't Have You" (originally by The Skyliners), and other tracks demonstrating a wider range of musical styles than McLean's more well-known folk recordings.

The album's reception was generally mixed. While McLean's vocal performance was often praised, some critics found the production and song selection inconsistent. Headroom did not achieve the commercial success of McLean's earlier albums like American Pie and Tapestry, and it remains a relatively lesser-known entry in his discography. Despite its lack of mainstream success, Headroom offers a glimpse into McLean's evolving musical interests and his attempts to adapt to changing musical landscapes in the late 20th century.
