Juan Francisco Reyes (soldier)

Juan Francisco Reyes was a Guatemalan soldier who played a significant role in the Guatemalan Revolution of 1944. As a captain in the Guatemalan army, Reyes was a key member of the group of junior officers who overthrew the US-backed dictator Jorge Ubico. His involvement was instrumental in facilitating the transition to a more democratic government.

Reyes' motivations for participating in the revolution stemmed from a desire for modernization and reform within the Guatemalan military and society as a whole. He, along with other officers, felt Ubico's authoritarian rule stifled progress and prevented Guatemala from achieving its full potential.

Following the revolution, Reyes held various positions within the new government. The details of his post-revolution career and later life are less widely documented, but his initial participation in the 1944 coup remains his most historically significant contribution. He is remembered as one of the key figures in the movement that initiated a decade of democratic reforms in Guatemala, known as the "Ten Years of Spring."
