Artemis V

Artemis V is a planned crewed mission in NASA's Artemis program, intended to be the fifth crewed lunar landing. The mission aims to send astronauts to the lunar surface, following in the footsteps of Artemis III and Artemis IV. As part of the Artemis program's long-term goal of establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon, Artemis V is expected to build upon the knowledge and infrastructure established by previous missions. Specific mission objectives are still under development, but they are anticipated to involve extended surface operations, scientific research, and technology demonstrations to prepare for future missions to Mars. The mission is planned to utilize the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion spacecraft for transportation to lunar orbit. The landing will be conducted by a Human Landing System (HLS), currently under development. The expected launch date is currently projected for the late 2020s.
