Jerry Lewis (California politician)

Jerry Lewis (October 21, 1934 – July 15, 2021) was an American Republican politician who represented California in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 2013. Prior to his service in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 1969 to 1978.

Lewis represented California's 41st congressional district for most of his congressional career, but redistricting shifted the boundaries of his district over the years, resulting in him representing different numerical designations. Generally, his district encompassed portions of San Bernardino County.

During his time in Congress, Lewis served on the House Appropriations Committee, eventually becoming its chairman from 2005 to 2007. He was known for his focus on issues related to transportation, infrastructure, and defense. His tenure was marked by both legislative accomplishments and controversies related to earmarks and campaign contributions.

After leaving Congress in 2013, he remained active in public affairs. He passed away in 2021.
