HMS P33 (1941)
HMS P33 was a Royal Navy submarine of the "U" class. Built by Vickers-Armstrongs, Barrow-in-Furness, she was launched on 8 July 1941 and commissioned on 17 October 1941. During World War II, P33 served in the Mediterranean Sea. On 18 August 1942, while on patrol off the island of Stromboli, Italy, she was attacked by the Italian torpedo boat Albatros and was believed to have been sunk. However, postwar analysis indicated that the attack by Albatros was actually against HMS P42, which survived. The true fate and exact circumstances of the loss of HMS P33 remain unknown, with one theory suggesting she may have struck a mine in the Straits of Sicily sometime after 12 August 1942, the date of her last known radio transmission. All 48 crew members were lost.
