Mathew Hale (bishop)

Mathew Hale (1729 – 29 June 1806) was an Irish Anglican clergyman. He served as the Bishop of Clonfert and Kilmacduagh from 1787 to 1795, and subsequently as the Bishop of Ossory from 1795 until his death in 1806.

Little is publicly known about Hale's early life or education. His clerical career saw a relatively quick ascent, culminating in his consecration as Bishop of Clonfert and Kilmacduagh on 18 February 1787. He was translated to the see of Ossory on 11 February 1795, succeeding William Newcome. Hale held this position until his death on 29 June 1806. His legacy is primarily marked by his ecclesiastical roles rather than significant publications or documented social impact.
