HMS Trenchant (S91)

HMS Trenchant (S91) was a Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarine of the Royal Navy. Built by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd (now BAE Systems Submarines) at Barrow-in-Furness, she was launched on 16 July 1986 and commissioned on 14 January 1989.

Part of the Cold War-era fleet designed to hunt Soviet submarines, HMS Trenchant served extensively in various theatres including the Atlantic, Arctic, and Pacific Oceans. She underwent several refits and upgrades throughout her service life to maintain her operational capabilities.

The Trafalgar class was designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) roles. They are also capable of intelligence gathering and supporting special forces operations. HMS Trenchant was armed with torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

HMS Trenchant was decommissioned on 23 June 2023 at Devonport Naval Base, bringing to an end over three decades of service. The submarine is now awaiting disposal.
