HD 84117
HD 84117 is a G0V-type star located approximately 83 light-years away in the constellation Sextans. It is a main-sequence star, meaning it is currently fusing hydrogen into helium in its core. The star is similar to our Sun in terms of its spectral type and temperature, although it is slightly more massive and luminous.
HD 84117 is known to host one confirmed extrasolar planet, designated HD 84117 b. This planet is a gas giant with a mass several times that of Jupiter and orbits the star at a distance of about 2.7 astronomical units (AU) with an orbital period of roughly 940 days.
The study of HD 84117 and its planet contributes to our understanding of planetary system formation and the diversity of planets that exist beyond our solar system. Further observations and analysis are ongoing to determine more about the characteristics of the planet and the potential for other planets in the system. Radial velocity measurements were instrumental in the discovery of HD 84117 b.
