George Cisar (baseball)
George Cisar (born June 14, 1912, Duquesne, Pennsylvania; died November 21, 1979, Los Angeles, California) was an American professional baseball player. Primarily a utility infielder, Cisar played Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals (1937–1938), Boston Bees/Braves (1939–1942, 1944), Pittsburgh Pirates (1946–1947), and St. Louis Browns (1950–1951).
Cisar began his professional baseball career in the minor leagues in the early 1930s. He made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1937. He was known for his defensive versatility and played multiple infield positions, including shortstop, second base, and third base. His most extensive playing time came with the Boston Braves during World War II. He served in the United States Army during the war, which interrupted his baseball career.
After his major league career ended in 1951, Cisar continued to play and manage in the minor leagues. He was known for his steady play and contribution as a veteran presence on various teams. While not a star player, Cisar had a lengthy professional career, contributing to several organizations over two decades.
