Netrikann
Netrikann (Tamil: நெற்றிக்கண், romanized: Neṟṟikkaṇ) refers to the third eye of the Hindu deity Shiva. In Sanskrit, it is known as Trinetra or Trilochana.
This third eye is located on Shiva's forehead, between his two conventional eyes. It is generally depicted as a vertical eye. The third eye is not always visible; it is usually closed, but it can be opened in times of extreme anger or need.
Symbolically, the Netrikann represents wisdom, insight, and the power to destroy evil. When opened, the third eye emits a powerful beam of fire that can incinerate anything in its path. It is associated with Shiva's destructive aspect, symbolizing the annihilation of ignorance, illusion, and negative forces. The opening of the Netrikann signifies a profound transformation and the ability to see beyond the limitations of ordinary perception.
In Hindu mythology, the Netrikann has been used on several occasions to destroy enemies of the gods and maintain cosmic order. The power of the third eye is considered immense and is a significant aspect of Shiva's iconography and theology. The concept extends beyond literal interpretation, representing the ability to discern truth from falsehood and to attain higher levels of consciousness.
