Necron (comics)

Necron is a supervillain appearing in DC Comics, primarily as an adversary of Green Lantern. He is a powerful entity embodying death itself, existing as the black personification of the Black Lantern Corps' power source.

Publication History:

Necron first appeared in Green Lantern (vol. 4) #52 in July 2010 as part of the Blackest Night storyline. He was created by writer Geoff Johns and artist Ivan Reis. His role as the embodiment of death and primary antagonist of the event cemented his place in the Green Lantern mythos.

Fictional Character Biography:

Necron exists in a realm beyond both the living universe and the afterlife, a dimension where death has no meaning. He is fueled by the absence of life and represents the dark, primordial void that existed before the creation of the universe. During the Blackest Night event, Black Hand, manipulated by Scar, becomes a conduit for Necron to enter the living universe. Necron's goal is to eliminate all life and return the universe to its original state of nothingness.

Necron raises fallen heroes and villains as Black Lanterns, imbuing them with Black Lantern rings powered by the emotional energy of the living. These resurrected Black Lanterns are used to kill living beings and spread death across the universe, bolstering Necron's power.

He is ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of the various Lantern Corps, who learn to embrace the emotional spectrum fully, disrupting his connection to the living world. The White Lantern entity, embodying life itself, is instrumental in his defeat, restoring life and driving him back to his realm.
