Henry Robinson (bishop)

Henry Robinson (1553? – 1616) was an English academic and clergyman, who served as Bishop of Carlisle.

Born in Carlisle, Cumberland (now Cumbria), Robinson was educated at Queen's College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1573, graduating B.A. in 1576, M.A. in 1579, B.D. in 1586, and D.D. in 1595.

He held various ecclesiastical positions throughout his career. He was appointed a Fellow of Queen's College in 1579 and served as Provost of the College from 1598 until his elevation to the episcopate in 1600. He was also appointed Rector of various parishes, including Barton, Westmoreland (1588), and Castle Carrock, Cumberland (1592). He was appointed Archdeacon of Carlisle in 1595.

In 1600, he was nominated as Bishop of Carlisle and consecrated on 14 September of that year. He served as Bishop of Carlisle until his death in 1616.

As Bishop, Robinson was involved in the administration of the diocese and attended Parliament. While historical details about his activities as bishop are somewhat sparse, he is recorded as having participated in several important ecclesiastical events. He died on June 19, 1616, and was buried in Carlisle Cathedral.

Robinson was married to a woman named Jane, and they had several children. His son, Christopher Robinson, also became a clergyman.
