Vela 2B

Vela 2B was a United States satellite launched in 1964 as part of Project Vela, a program designed to monitor nuclear detonations in the atmosphere and space, initially in support of the Limited Test Ban Treaty. Vela 2B was the second satellite in the second pair of Vela Advanced Nuclear Detection Satellites. It carried X-ray, gamma-ray, neutron, and optical sensors to detect nuclear explosions. Its primary function was to improve the nation's ability to verify compliance with nuclear test ban treaties by detecting clandestine nuclear tests. Vela 2B operated in conjunction with Vela 2A.
