Iguidi

Iguidi is a Saharan toponym referring to a type of large, sandy plain or erg characterized by longitudinal (linear) dunes. These dunes are typically parallel or sub-parallel to each other and can stretch for tens or even hundreds of kilometers. The spaces between the dunes, known as corridors or seifs, can be relatively flat or consist of smaller, more irregular dunes.

The term "Iguidi" is derived from local languages and is used particularly in the Western Sahara region. The formation of Iguidi ergs is driven by consistent prevailing winds that sculpt the sand into these elongated shapes over long periods. The size and spacing of the dunes are influenced by factors such as wind speed, sand supply, and the underlying topography.

Iguidi formations are significant geological features, often providing habitats for specialized desert flora and fauna. They also pose challenges for human activities such as transportation and resource extraction.
