Giorgio Baffo

Giorgio Baffo (August 11, 1694 – July 31, 1768) was a Venetian nobleman and poet, best known for his sonnets written in the Venetian dialect, particularly those of a bawdy and often obscene nature. Born into a wealthy and influential patrician family, Baffo enjoyed a life of privilege that allowed him to indulge his literary pursuits and artistic patronage.

While Baffo served in various public offices, including as a senator, his lasting legacy rests solely on his poetic output. He did not publish his works during his lifetime, and they circulated privately among the Venetian elite. These poems, characterized by their explicit sexual content and irreverent tone, offer a vivid and often satirical portrait of Venetian society during the 18th century.
