National Bank of Dubai (building)

The National Bank of Dubai (NBD) building was a prominent architectural landmark located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Designed by architect Carlos Ott, it served as the headquarters for the National Bank of Dubai before its merger with Emirates Bank International in 2007 to form Emirates NBD.

The building was characterized by its distinctive curved, sail-like design, often described as resembling a dhow, a traditional Arab sailing vessel. This design was intended to reflect Dubai's maritime heritage and its connection to the sea. The building’s facade was clad in mirrored glass, which further enhanced its striking appearance and allowed it to reflect the surrounding urban landscape.

The National Bank of Dubai building was strategically situated on the Dubai Creek, providing a commanding view of the waterway and contributing to the city's iconic skyline. Its location made it a significant visual element in the Deira district of Dubai.

After the merger that created Emirates NBD, the building continued to serve as a branch office for the new entity. While no longer the official headquarters, it remained a recognizable symbol of Dubai's architectural achievements and a reminder of the National Bank of Dubai's historical importance.
