George Gipps (MP for Ripon)

George Gipps (c. 1783 – 25 September 1842) was a British Whig politician and Member of Parliament.

Gipps was the son of George Gipps of Canterbury and his wife Sarah, daughter of John Jordan of Godmersham. His brother was Sir George Gipps, Governor of New South Wales.

He was elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ripon in 1832, a seat he held until his death in 1842. He generally supported the Whig ministry.

He married Margaret Deane, daughter of Thomas Deane of Cranbrook, Kent, in 1807. They had children. He died at Howletts near Canterbury.
