Alex Alves (footballer, born 1974)

Alex Alves (Alexandro de Souza Alves) (December 30, 1974 – November 14, 2012) was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward.

Alves began his career in Brazil with Portuguesa in 1993, eventually moving to Palmeiras. He played for several clubs throughout his career, including Paraná Clube, Juventude, and Cruzeiro in Brazil. He also had stints with Hertha BSC in Germany, where he gained a significant amount of recognition, and with Kavala in Greece.

During his time with Hertha BSC (1999-2003), Alves became known for his powerful shots and ability to score spectacular goals. He played in the Bundesliga and in European competitions, including the Champions League. His time in Berlin, however, was also marked by inconsistent performances and disciplinary issues, which contributed to his eventual departure.

After leaving Hertha BSC, Alves continued his career with various clubs, primarily in Brazil, until his retirement. He later suffered from health problems and passed away in 2012 at the age of 37 from leukemia.
